I know! That's silly, but you get the point, don't you? I just want you to understand there are some basics needed for Internet Marketing and you really can't do without them.

I have so much to tell you but it won't all be included now or you'd have far too much to take in all at once and we don't want that, do we? 

If you haven't filled in your details yet, scroll back up and do it now because that's how you'll get to know more and more. I'll be able to keep in touch with you and help you even further.

Ok, let's make a start:

1. Internet Marketing comes in various forms and has abbreviations like HTML, PPC, PPV, FTP, CSS, which you'll soon understand. Any strange (to you) terms or abbreviations, you can usually find the meaning by searching for the term using Google or MSN. (For example, type "What does FTP mean?")

Some of the popular ways of marketing are Affiliate Sales, Sales of your Own Product, Sales of Physical Goods, and, when you have built a list of your own, Email marketing.

There's one place that's hard to beat for getting educated. Michael Andrews is really good and so I recommend  this place for getting started  on the right foot! I found this site back in 2007 and I'm so glad I did. He's in the UK and so am I.  I'll be moving to the US soon but that's another story, for another time!

2. You really need to be able to make up a simple website for yourself.  Don't worry. It's not as hard as you think.

3. As a prospective marketer you should know what a domain is and how to get your own domain name. Also you need to know about hosting. The one I use is Hostgator. I've found their support is great. They will put your brand new website up on the web with your newly chosen domain name in the address bar up at the top.

4. Any new student of 'net marketing needs to know about email followup sales campaigns. Name collection (building a list) and automated 'after the sale' software is the most important aspect of online marketing there is.  I've always used Aweber. because it's the best and lots of marketers use it. The tutorials are very helpful and now I see that they've made the best even better and easier to use.

5. As a beginner to 'net marketing you'll need to know what keywords are and why you need them plus how to use a simple keyword tool that will just tell you the keywords for your chosen subject. Keywords are also called Keyword Phrases, Longtail Keywords or Search Terms. Google has a keyword tool but there's a lot to choose from. 

Oh, and you'll need to open a Google account. It's easy to do and you'll find Google Analytics becomes a favourite with you before long. It's free and it tracks visitors to your site..tells you what Search Term they used, where they are situated, how long they stayed on your site etc. All very helpful stuff.  

6. You'll need to learn how to drive traffic to your new website. You can learn all about that here. Otherwise your lovely new website will just sit there, unvisited and not making any sales. 

One extremely popular method of driving traffic is writing articles.

When I write articles, I write on the same subject as my website, so it matches and people who read the articles because they're interested will click on the links in the articles because they want to know more. Article traffic is targeted traffic. This is the kind you want. And this is what writing articles is all about. It's the way good marketers get lots of traffic - and some sales.

The best way is to submit at least two articles a week to a website that submits your articles to hundreds of publishers. This is the place to Submit Your Article.

7. Every marketer has a way set up to let people pay them for their products.(A Pay Button) You'll need this too so Start with Paypal.  It's free to set up an account I believe and they just take a small percentage of each sale you make. Is it starting to feel real? You'll actually be able to make sales!

8.Also you should Start A Blog! Easy to do and Google loves blogs! You can write in your blog to drive traffic to your new website. Be sure to
get a wordpress.org blog NOT Wordpress.com and have it hosted at Hostgator.

Remember that - because Wordpress.com does NOT ALLOW sales pages or affiliate links and we marketers NEED them - so get Wordpress.org and have it hosted at Hostgator. DON'T fall for the free hosting at Wordpress.com or Blogger. It's not what you want.

What I recommend is this. 

Get an account at goDaddy.com Choose your new domain name and then point it to Hostgator. They will host your new domain on their server. Both GoDaddy and Hostgator are great to deal with and their customer support is superb. That is important! There will be times when you need to phone them with questions. Plus, they're both cheap.

Works for me at  24 Hour Wordpress Guru.

9.  FTP!  Stands for File Transfer Protocol. Don’t worry about it. It’s easier than it seems at first. I even have FREE instructions to help you. You'll find the download link a bit lower down.

If you're using PC/Windows, there is FileZilla.  It's FREE! 

And for Mac users, there's Cyberduck. That's FREE too.

Use one of these FREE ones to upload files to your hosting servers so your webpages can be on the net. There’s lots of them for sale but try Cyberduck! Yes Cyberduck…odd name…but it works Great!

EVERYBODY freaks at the idea of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) I guess it sounds scary at first, it did to me....but it's NOT once you get the idea of it!  (I have to admit here, because I'm honest...I used to ask my fiance to do the FTP bit for me, because it DID seem scary. NOW I do it myself. Hey, if I can do it, you can!)
